As a boudoir photographer, one of the most common questions I get before a session is, “What should I wear for my boudoir shoot?” It’s a great question — and honestly, one of my favorite parts of the whole experience. Choosing outfits is where your personality really shines through! Whether you want to go full glam, cozy, romantic, or bold, the key is this: wear what makes you feel beautiful and confident.
When it comes to packing for your session, I recommend bringing 2–3 outfits (depending on what type of session you’ve booked). That gives us plenty of variety without feeling rushed between changes. My rule of thumb? Bring a matching set that you feel absolutely amazing in, something your partner loves (if you’re using the photos as a gift!), and a lace or silk robe to add texture and movement to your images.
A little variety goes a long way in creating a gallery that feels dynamic and personal. I’m a big fan of mixing it up — think a fancy, lacy lingerie set for one outfit and a men’s button-down shirt for another. You can even incorporate something unexpected like a sports jersey or a sultry costume if it fits your vibe.
When it comes to colors, red and black tend to be the most popular for their bold, sexy feel, but every woman is different. Some of my favorite sessions have included soft neutrals, dusty pinks, and even jewel tones like emerald or plum. The only “rule” is to stay true to you. If you love how you look in it, it’s perfect.
Here’s a little insider tip that can make a huge difference: test your outfits ahead of time when you’re planning what to wear for a boudoir shoot. I always recommend taking a mini “test run” — and yes, that means taking a ton of selfies!
Outfits can look amazing when you’re standing, but you might not love how they move when you’re sitting or arching your back (and we’ll definitely be doing a variety of poses during your shoot). Snap photos from every angle — front, back, side, sitting, standing, and even laying down — to make sure you love how your outfit looks no matter what.
Doing this ahead of time gives you confidence going into your shoot because you already know your outfits are winners.
If there’s one accessory I always recommend bringing, it’s a great pair of high heels. They don’t just look amazing — they actually help with your posture and make your booty pop (yes, really!).
Bring one or two pairs that you feel comfortable in. A classic sleek black heel or something neutral can help elongate your legs beautifully. But if you’re a shoe girl and love a pop of personality, go for it! Bold heels can be a fun way to add your signature flair to your shoot. Just remember: you’ll be standing on your tippy toes quite a bit, so treat it like a mini workout and bring something that gives you balance and confidence.
A little preparation for your boudoir shoot goes a long way toward making your session smooth and stress-free. Here’s a quick checklist to get your wardrobe ready for shoot day:
These small details make a big difference and help you start the day relaxed and ready to shine.
If you’re feeling stuck or want a second opinion, don’t worry — you don’t have to figure it out alone! I love helping clients find the perfect combination of outfits that highlight their best features and feel totally “them.” You’re always welcome to send me photos or ideas if you’d like a little feedback on what to wear for a boudoir shoot before your session.
Remember: your boudoir experience should make you feel empowered, confident, and completely comfortable in your own skin. The best outfit is the one that makes you walk a little taller and smile a little bigger. So whether that’s a matching lingerie set, your partner’s shirt, or something bold and unexpected — wear what makes you feel like the most beautiful version of you.
