One of the first questions couples ask me is: “When is the best time to get married in Austin?” And honestly? There’s no one-size-fits-all answer — but there is a best season for you.
Austin has something special year-round: golden light, live oak trees, hill country views, and a whole lot of personality. As a wedding photographer in Austin, I’ve photographed weddings in every season, and each one comes with its own magic (and a few things to plan around). Let’s break it down so you can choose the time of year that fits your vision and needs.

Spring is one of the most popular times to get married in Austin, and for good reason!
Pros:
Spring brings mild temperatures, blooming flowers, and that fresh, romantic feeling so many couples love. The light is soft, the landscapes are green, and outdoor ceremonies are usually very comfortable for guests. Bluebonnet season also falls in early spring, which can be a beautiful bonus for engagement photos or wedding portraits.
Cons:
Spring weather can be unpredictable. We sometimes get rain, storms, or sudden temperature changes, so having a solid backup plan is key. Because spring is so popular, venues and vendors often book up far in advance and pricing can be higher.
Spring is perfect for couples who love outdoor ceremonies, floral-forward designs, and don’t mind building flexibility into their timeline.

Summer weddings in Texas get a bad reputation — but when planned intentionally, they can be stunning.
Pros:
Summer offers long days and gorgeous golden sunsets. Late evening ceremonies can be absolutely dreamy, especially with string lights and a lively reception vibe. Summer dates may also offer more venue availability and flexibility compared to peak seasons.
Cons:
Let’s be real: it’s hot. Afternoon ceremonies can be uncomfortable, so most summer weddings work best with later start times or indoor spaces. Heat can also affect timelines, attire, and florals, so thoughtful planning is essential. The intense sunlight can affect photos (nobody wants wedding photos with everyone squinting!), so if your ceremony is during the day, going indoors or having a venue with beautiful shady spots is key.
Summer is great for couples who want a laid-back, sunset-centered celebration and are open to adjusting timelines to beat the heat.

Fall is often considered the best time to get married in Austin — and it’s easy to see why.
Pros:
Temperatures start cooling down, the light is incredible, and outdoor weddings start to feel comfortable again. Fall sunsets are some of my favorites to photograph, and the season pairs beautifully with earthy color palettes. November especially offers that perfect balance of warmth and crisp air.
Cons:
Because fall is so desirable, it’s also one of the most competitive seasons. Popular venues and vendors book quickly, and dates can come with higher price tags. Early fall can still bring some summer heat and intense sunlight.
Fall is ideal for couples who want the “classic Austin wedding” feel with golden light, outdoor spaces, and comfortable weather (in later fall).

Winter is an underrated wedding season in Austin, and one I personally love!
Pros:
Winter weddings often come with more venue availability, lower costs, and fewer crowds. The light can be soft and romantic, and Texas winters are generally mild compared to many other places. It’s also a great season for more intimate celebrations.
Cons:
Winter weather can be unpredictable, with occasional cold fronts or rain or even some surprise snow and ice. Days are shorter, so timelines need to be planned carefully to make the most of natural light.
Winter is perfect for couples who value intimacy, flexibility, and a cozy, romantic atmosphere.
The best time to get married in Austin depends on what matters most to you! If you want lush greenery and florals, spring might be your season. If you love golden sunsets and don’t mind the heat, summer can work beautifully. Fall is a favorite if you’re dreaming of perfect weather and outdoor celebrations. And if you want something intimate, flexible, and budget-friendly, winter might surprise you.
No matter the season, thoughtful planning and a well-built timeline make all the difference. As your wedding photographer, my job is to help you navigate lighting, weather, and timing so your wedding day feels relaxed, joyful, and completely you.
