Boudoir photography is such a special thing. It’s a celebration of who we are and the bodies we live in. For MiKalah’s boudoir studio session, it was a celebration of freedom, an opportunity to be herself and love every inch of her body. When we first chatted about doing a boudoir session, she told me she wanted to commemorate her fitness journey and remember what she looked like at this stage of her life.
This is one of my favorite things about boudoir photography. You can use your photos as a gift for your partner, but more often than not, the people I work with view their boudoir session as a form of self care. It’s a way to look at your body and love it, to empower yourself, and tap into your confident, sensual side. And it’s also fun! We put on music, jam out, and have a blast finding angles and poses that make you feel like the bad ass you are.

Every boudoir session starts with a consultation call. I want to hear your vision and understand your hesitations or insecurities. It’s 100% normal to feel nervous about your shoot! My goal is to help you feel prepared and excited. The nerves will go away naturally as you warm to the environment.
After the consultation call, I send a questionnaire. In this questionnaire, I ask about your taste in music so I can put together a playlist, and make sure to fully understand your comfort level. After that, I send my boudoir tips, including some outfit inspo, and am available for video calls if you want to show me the outfits you’re planning to wear!
MiKalah had a few poses she knew she wanted captured, but beyond that, wasn’t sure exactly what the session would look like. We spent a lot of time discussing outfits, looking up pose inspiration, and making sure she felt ready for her shoot. Her goal was to celebrate year 37 and have a visual diary of what she looks like, right now. I loved her vision, and worked hard to make sure she could have everything she wanted and more.

I go above and beyond to create a clean, comfortable, and judgement-free zone for every session, and MiKalah’s was no exception. She arrived half-excited, half-nervous. I always ease into these boudoir sessions, so I started by putting on the playlist I made for her and introducing easy, approachable poses. As her nerves wore off, I started directing her into some bolder positions, but made sure to communicate that she was always in control. There is never any pressure or rush.
And as the session went on, I saw something miraculous. Her nerves completely disappeared. She stepped boldly into a confident, magnetic energy that made taking her photos easy. She got excited, even suggesting poses and angles I hadn’t considered! And you want to know the best part? This is what happens in nearly every single boudoir session. It feels uncomfortable at first, but soon, you’re strutting your stuff and feeling on top of the world. That’s the real magic of boudoir photography. Not the photos, but the confidence and boldness that comes from fully embracing every part of yourself.

You can have your boudoir session wherever you feel the most comfortable, whether that’s at home, at a hotel, or in a studio! For MiKalah’s session, we opted for a studio. A boudoir studio gives you a private, comfortable space where you can fully relax and focus on yourself. Plus, it creates a polished, elevated experience, which can really enhance your photos!
But beyond all this, a boudoir studio has a few subtle benefits that shooting at home may not give you. First of all—natural light! Studios offer natural, controlled lighting for the most flattering angles and dramatic images. And you know what else is controlled? The temperature. This is one of the most overlooked details when planning a boudoir session! The temperature can make or break the entire experience. Because let’s be honest, you won’t be wearing much. You will be far more comfortable when you’re not shivering!
Some studios even have multiple room setups so we can capture a variety of images, poses, and backdrops without needing to switch locations. They have access to mirrors, changing areas, and private bathrooms for touchups, and often offer more creative freedom with posing, shadows, and silhouettes.
Most of all, studios offer a clean, luxurious environment that helps create an intimate atmosphere. Your comfort throughout your boudoir session is my highest priority, so I only work in studios that offer complete privacy so you can feel totally at ease. Long before your session, I scout out available studios (and their furniture!) and find the best place for you. The day of your session, I arrive early to make sure doors are locked as needed, windows and blinds are appropriately set, and that the studio is a good temperature!

Boudoir is a deeply personal and intimate occasion. I am honored every time someone trusts me to capture this version of them! And I do not take this trust lightly. I will do whatever I can to help you feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful. I offer three different boudoir packages, and two even include hair and makeup services so you can feel pampered from the very start!
MiKalah chose my most popular collection, which includes hair and makeup, a pre-booked venue, and all of my planning tips! She even added an 8×8 custom album to hold onto these photos and everything they represent. Take it from her: “10/10 best boudoir experience! I got all the poses and pictures I wanted. Naomi was great with direction. I have never felt so beautiful! Thank you Naomi, I’ll be back to see you again soon!”
