What’s just as romantic as 1954’s “Sabrina?” This drive-in movie inspired wedding. But that just may be my biased opinion 😉
There’s something timeless about love and weddings, and the classic film romances we watch over and over again. Being able to mix classic with a twist was the idea for Sydney and Luke’s wedding day.
Ever the classic romantic, the bride specifically chose a vintage looking Vera Wang ring from the Love collection. The small sapphire in the ring served as her “something blue”.
The groom’s stylish wedding band balanced his ageless era-appropriate tux.
Designed by Oh My Occasions, this Drive-In movie inspired wedding is the perfect inspiration for the bride who wants to wear her grandmother’s wedding gown, but still loves a contemporary approach. Or the groom who sports a standard bowtie, peak lapel, and classic James Bond tuxedo while still embracing modern essentials.
Sydney and Luke played the beloved 1954 film “Sabrina” on a projector screen for their guests under a late Summer sky. Edison bulb strands hung from the branches above. A play on the traditional parking lot drive-in movie, they brought the theater atmosphere to an intimate and private park setting.
Wanting to play off of the quintessential transparent film stock, clear ghost chairs and translucent vellum menus complimented the theme. Custom vinyl chair decals adorned the guest seating, while a floral sprig peeked from each salmon napkin.
Balancing the traditional accents were pops of fuchsia, peach, marigolds, oranges, and green flowers from J Morgan Flowers.
A custom table runner from Atlas Event Rentals mimicked the floral hues for a vibrant statement piece on the otherwise simplistic tablescape. Pearl strands made their way around each centerpiece while the bride’s bouquet had a bright “name in lights” surprise as the sun set.
Captured beautifully by Sweet Memories Photography by Naomi Phelps, the bride flaunted a fit-like-a-glove Martina Liana gown with lace and pearl features in true Audrey Hepburn-style.
Our trio of altering-height cakes from Two Fat Cookies were custom designed with the dress in mind, while also resembling a timeline of classic elements: a tall sugar pearl banded cake topped with edible wafer flower for a more vintage feel, a 2-tier gem and piping fondant piece favored a lace look, and a modern silver trimmed ruffle marble cake echoing the colors of the flowers and linens.
Colored meringues were packaged in individual silver striped popcorn boxes for guests to enjoy during the movie. Star-shaped sugar cookies and plated white chocolate bark with colored gems and sprinkles tied in the vivid hues of the wedding.
This couple and their love shined, making my job as their photographer so easy. I loved shooting all of their wedding details and playing with the available light, shining through the trees. Not to mention, every photo taken of Sydney and Luke was undeniably perfect!
Bond. James Bond.
Hints of Hollywood were present through subtle details like a bulb makeup mirror personalized with the couple’s first dance song “La Vie en Rose”.
In a unique way to make their marriage truly “concrete” Sydney and Luke channeled their inner Hollywood, and left their hand prints in cement as a memory of their wedding day.
Fairy lights began to glow from within the bouquet, illuminating the couple at dusk and complimenting the pearl wrapped stems and brilliant colors.
As Sydney and Luke kissed in front of a screen with the words “The End”, their love story had only just begun.
“I have learned how to live, how to be IN the world and OF the world, and not just to stand aside and watch. And I will never, never again run away from life. Or from love, either.” -Sabrina, 1954
