This Thompson Austin hotel birthday celebration was so much fun to be a part of! When Renata first reached out to me, I was beyond thrilled! She told me she was celebrating her 50th birthday 80’s style. And who doesn’t love the 80’s!?! Bold, vibrant colors with big hair and shoulder pads?! Who else can’t get enough of “The Breakfast Club,” “Pretty in Pink,” “Dirty Dancing,” and “Top Gun?!” I say, bring back the 80’s!
Renata and I connected thanks to Mackenzie, a mutual friend of ours, and an event planner. Mackenzie wasn’t able to plan the party but was a huge help in finding vendors (and a fun partner on the dance floor). So, thank you, Mackenzie, for referring me and allowing me to be a part of Renata’s epic celebration!
The birthday girl chose the swanky Thompson Austin hotel for its bold design, open spaces, and prime location. Not to mention, they have the most delicious food by the award-winning chef, Mashama Bailey.
When I arrived to the hotel, there were clear, custom signs pointing the way. Up on the 15th floor is the Bayberry Room. This room captures the outdoors and brings it inside. It opens to a terrace overlooking downtown Austin and has large sofas and an outdoor fireplace.
On a normal, non-birthday day, it has white ceilings, wooden beams and walls, and modern carpet. But on this specific day, it was adorned with Pop and Drop balloons, tables filled with slinkies and other 80’s memorabilia, and a DJ blasting the very best 80’s dance music. Neon colors surrounded us and, as people began arriving, their outfits got better and better!
The first part of the night was filled with drinks and light food. This lead to an 80’s themed cake coming out and everyone serenading the birthday girl. Then, you can imagine what came next …
Yup! The 80’s dance PARTY and it was a whole, fun, epic thing!
